We haven t done anything to our kitchen since adding the under cabinet lighting, replacing all of the outdated almond-colored outlets and switches, and having the cabinets refaced last fall. But we ve finally saved up enough to get new kitchen countertops. (We don t believe in spending money we don t have.

Our good friends recently had their kitchen, full bath, half bath, and dining room built-ins renovated. It's quite the transformation so I figured I'd share it with you guys. Perhaps I should start a series called The House Swan by Two Twenty One.

This past weekend I was helping a friend put together her wedding registry. Her future husband is loving soul who told her to register for whatever she wanted, as long as she included a few tools and beer-related items. Since he bowed out of tackling their registry, she asked if I could help her find some turquoise kitchen decor and appliances because she knows I'm an awesome Internet searcher.

Guys, it has been beyond gloomy, rainy, and depressing here the past 7-9 days. I mean, our lawn looks great, but the weather has been killing my photography opportunities. I've been trying to take photos of our new bathroom lighting fixtures for days only to hate how they turn out.

I often get certain questions about our kitchen because people read one post, but don't necessarily follow exactly what happened and in what order. So I've been feeling like I need a post that lumps everything that we've done to our kitchen, thus far, together. That's why I'm sharing our kitchen makeover process.

I'm the worst when it comes to mealtime. Because in all honesty, I'd prefer that someone else prepare my meals for me, but since I'm not a thirty-something still living at home with my mom nor am I a millionaire who can afford a personal chef, the job duty falls on me.

Last fall we were able to make a huge improvement to our kitchen by having toppers added to extend the cabinets to the ceiling and by having the cabinets refaced. We also classed up the kitchen with under cabinet lighting.

One small project I tackled before Owen s arrival was organizing under our kitchen sink. I didn t like how I would knock over things to get to other things in the back of the cabinet. I also wanted to be able to put items we used often in a more strategic place.

Whether you're a foodie or not, there are some definite kitchen staples you need. And if you're swingin' solo until your I Dos and don't entertain much as is, you might be uber surprised by how much you're gonna want to entertain once you're all hitched and shacked up together (plus, as broke-asses, it's cheaper to holler at some peeps to come over than have a lavish night out.
