Handmade Origami Filled Pub Wedding | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

via

WWW readers Callie and Graham tied the knot in October 2013 and boy did they have one gorgeous wedding day. They had a vision of a relaxed and informal wedding and chose a pub to hold their reception; the food sounded scrumptious.

Callie wore an elegant lace dress with her hair styled to perfection and she wore her late mum's sapphire engagement ring on a necklace. Graham looked dashing in a suit by Marks and Spencer while the bridesmaids looked lovely in flowing green dresses.

There was so much effort put into their décor, there was home made bunting and 1000 origami cranes, with the favours being Cancer Research UK pins. I love this wedding :-)

Thanks so much to Lisa Dawn Photography for sharing her delightful images with us today.

The Vision for the Day... We both wanted something fairly relaxed and informal and I was keen to include a lot of DIY elements. We wanted people to have as much fun as possible. I was an avid reader of WWW and so I picked up lots of little ideas from other peoples weddings in the blog.

The Venue... We actually only looked at 2 venues in the end. I did quite a lot of searching online and quite a few venues were just out of our budget. We viewed an Eco-Hotel in Bournemouth but were put off by the basement ceremony/evening reception room. In a sudden flash of inspiration I wondered if the pub where Graham celebrated his 21 st birthday and where we had been on a date years before did weddings. We went to view The Langton Arms just outside Blandford-Forum and realised it was perfect for the informal day we wanted as well as their willingness to accommodate everything we wanted. The next village along was also where Graham's parents were married more than 30 years before and so we knew the pub was the right choice. Because of Graham's links to the area we were able to get married in the same tiny church.

There was no set menu at The Langton and so along with Barbara (the owner) we were able to design all the food and drinks exactly to our liking. We decided on a wonderful charcuterie sharing platter for the starter, fillet of venison for the main and fruit pavlova, chocolate mousse and ice cream for dessert. The food was divine! The Langton only uses local produce and we wanted to continue on in that theme and so chose a very local English Sparkling wine, made in Dorset, for our toasts (we had not so local Mojito's as our welcome drinks!) and west country cheeses for our cheese cake in the evening.

The Dress + Accessories... I absolutely loved my dress, I had always thought I might sell it after the wedding but now I've worn it for the day I don't think I can, it holds so many memories! I wore a simple veil during the ceremony and a custom made hair comb from Etsy. My something borrowed and something blue was my late mum's sapphire engagement ring which I wore on a necklace. I also had a bouquet charm bought for me by a friend in which I was able to put a picture of my mum so could feel like she was there the whole day.

Finding the Dress... I looked in a few bridal shops and also enquired about having a dress made but found that to be too expensive. I was starting to get a little downhearted that I wasn't going to be able to find a lace dress that I liked in my budget. I got Graham to take me to a local second hand wedding dress shop in Poole (he hid round the corner while I was looking!) with the intention of buying second hand. When I mentioned I was looking for lace the lady in the shop pointed me round the corner to their new full price dresses. I picked a few out to try on and was telling her that I hadn't had that 'the one' feeling yet and just as she was helping me into a dress and saying that not everyone experienced that I had the feeling! I absolutely loved the dress but it was out of my price range. The shop owner very kindly offered to sell me that exact dress for £100 cheaper than it should be because it was such a perfect fit, I went away to think about it but couldn't stop thinking about the dress and made sure I went back as soon as they opened the next morning to pay for it. In the end I only needed £15 worth of alternations because it fit so well.

Memorable Moments... Walking down the aisle, I know it's a cliché but they're all right, once you see your man waiting for you at the end of the aisle everything else fades out.

Arriving 15 minutes early...before all of the guests were seated, although anyone that knows me knows I'm never late!

Moving tables between courses was a great idea from the venue and meant we got to spend time with both our families as well as our groomsmen and ushers.

And finally having the MOST fun in the evening do....photo booth, dance off (the best man won!), ties on heads and dancing the night away in my Converse!

Advice for Other Couples... Enjoy the planning, it lasts far longer than the day itself and try not to worry about little things, your day will be perfect no matter what happens.
