When two Canadian geologists elope to Iceland, you may rest assured that the photographs will be mind-blowing. BUT. Photographer Ann Peters had so much cool info to share on the details, that Imma sprinkle a few more words than usual in between the pics.

Tara and Landon began their wedding day at a geothermal hotel in the hot springs town of Hveragerði in southern Iceland. Getting to their ceremony site on the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier involved a base camp, a Super JEEP, an hours-long drive, and a 40-minute climb. Side note: apparently the glacier is near a volcano that's overdue for eruption. Marriage is an adventure, y'all.

Despite the altitude and the ice, the warmth (60 degrees F) was enough for Tara to feel comfortable in her strapless, tea-length dress. Tara and Landon exchanged vow books, which they read silently, and then adapted their unity ceremony from an Australian stone ceremony. The couple buried gemstone hearts (Tara's was rose quartz, Landon's was jade) in the glacier, symbolizing the bond of their marriage lasting through the ebb and flow of time.

After a bit of glacier-chilled champagne (I mean, WHY NOT?), Tara and Landon headed for Reynisfjara Cave & Black Sand Beach. A quick hotdog for lunch, and then it was on to Dyrhólaey Cliffs and Lighthouse. Iceland makes for some breathtakingly eerie scenery, and the couple came across the fuselage of a US Navy plane from 1973.

A few photos at Skogafoss Waterfall, and then Tara and Landon capped off their 14-hour wedding adventure with a private five-course meal at Hotel Rangá. People - they got to keep the tablecloth. It was a wool blanket made in their wedding colors. And as a special nod to the couple's profession, the napkin rings were made from lava rocks and the place card holders were basalt rocks.
