Big Party London City Wedding at One Whitehall Place

Big Party London City Wedding at One Whitehall Place

You can't go wrong if when planning a wedding you simply plan a big party and get married too, which is just how today's couple approached their wedding.

Laura and Pete held their wedding day at One Whitehall Place in London on the 28th June 2014. Their priorities were the food, drink, music and dancing; the perfect combo to ensure guests had an awesome time.

With classic and chic styling there were simple touches and multicoloured flowers.

Laura looked elegant in Imari by Jenny Packham with a cathedral length veil, while Pete wore bespoke Reiss. So much style. Oh and how amazing is that Pride Parade shot? Priceless.

Thanks goes to the amazing Babb Photo for sharing her imagery today.

THE PROPOSAL | Was a total surprise. Pete told me that we were going out to something festive (it was 2 weeks before Christmas) and I cynically thought it was a ruse to get me ice-skating, as he has wanted to go for ages and I have stubbornly refused. It turned out that he had booked a private capsule on the London Eye, and even then it didn't click what was happening and my main thought was that I needed to get him a better Christmas present....... anyway he popped the question when our capsule was at the top, and the rest is history.

THE VISION | I can't say that we had a vision as such - we wanted a big party for our family and friends and we wanted it in London, which is our home and surely the best city in the world! As many of our guests were coming over from America I guess we wanted something a bit special as well, something that showed London off.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | In our mind, you can't have a good party without amazing food, free-flowing booze, good music and lots of dancing. I also got quite addicted to wedding blogs, where I learned very quickly how important high quality photography is. So, we centred everything around these priorities. We also knew that we weren't going to do everything absolutely according to the rule book, for example I didn't have bridesmaids, the best men all wore whatever they wanted to, no first dance and no cutting of the cake (we had a baklava tower instead, just because we prefer it). Beyond that, we pretty much chose the things that we liked most along the way and didn't worry too much about what people would think or if it all came together in a 'theme'. We also took lots of recommendations from friends - we've been to a lot of weddings in the last couple of years to there was plenty of advice on offer!

BUDGET | We didn't set one, and if I'm honest I have absolutely no idea how much we spent!

THE VENUE | We chose One Whitehall Place, London. It's a beautiful old building on the bank of the river, with great views across London (out of interest - part of the 1 st episode of the Honourable Woman was filmed there). It also has loads of political history attached to it. We were also totally won over by the delicious food and drink, and the amazing Laura Ramella who was our wedding coordinator and made the whole process seem like a breeze from beginning to end.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I bought my dress in the town I grew up in, because that was a good way of involving my Mum in the process, and the two of us went together for the initial searches. I found my dress on the second appointment, although I didn't know it, as I had to get the opinion of a couple of friends first (I'd narrowed it down to one of 2 very similar dresses by the same designed). I went with Imari, by Jenny Packham because it made me feel so glamorous, and because there wasn't a single bit of boning or corseting in it, meaning I could eat, drink and dance to my hearts content. I always knew that I would end up in something like Imari.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | We spent some time wandering around Saville Row, and briefly flirted with the idea of Pete wearing the suit that Daniel Craig famously wore in Casino Royale. But then a friend recommended Reiss's made to measure service, and as he had looked awesome at his own wedding we decided to go for it. The process is really fun, you get to choose every tiny detail, right down to the colour of the thread on the buttonholes! Pete ended up in an extremely dapper slim-fit suit in a bright (ish) blue, and looked great.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We let our friends choose the readings, and they were perfect. Pete is a trained musician so has lots of talented musicians as friends, one of whom kindly agreed to organise (and perform) all of the music for the ceremony. We went with a brass band - it was great walking down the aisle to trumpets, French horns and a trombone! In the evening we had a 10 piece big band playing Frank Sinatra type numbers - they were worth every penny.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS| I had my best friends little girl and my niece as flower girls - they looked gorgeous. I didn't have any adult bridesmaids, though my friends were brilliant in supporting me in the run up to the day, and on the day itself.

THE FLOWERS | I love flowers, but really didn't want to break the budget on this part of the day. I also wasn't too worried about having everything perfectly coordinated. So, we ended up with a mix of professional arrangements (ceremony room, bouquets and buttonholes) and then I did the table centrepieces and a few arrangements around the venue myself. Doing some of the flowers was more work than I thought, but luckily my awesome friend Hayley helped me stuff about a million bottles with babies breath, which definitely made the time pass more quickly!

THE CAKE | We shunned cake and went with loads of baklava instead, which we bought from a shop off Edgeware Road. It was delicious, and a lot cheaper than a cake too.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Was Laura Babb, who I found through a wedding blog. Pete and I immediately felt comfortable with Laura, and trusted that she would do a great job capturing our wedding. We love our images from the day, which brilliantly document the emotion and mood of the day. We would book her again in a second (not that we plan on getting married again!).

THE HONEYMOON | Thailand - we went the day after the wedding and had 2 nights in Bangkok followed by a week on Koh Samui. We stayed in the Banyan Tree in both places, which was complete luxury.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | My Dad coming to collect me before the ceremony and walking down the aisle with an embarrassingly big grin on my face, and then the whole of the ceremony. Going out into the Pride Parade was also great fun and I will never forget the experience of being surrounded by so many people who had no idea who we were, but wanted to congratulate/hug/kiss us anyway!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Make sure you snatch some time alone as soon after the ceremony as you can - we had a few minutes immediately afterwards to really appreciate what we'd just done. Also, be a bit selfish, it's your day and you can't please everyone, so concentrate on pleasing yourselves.
