Jodie and Dan's big day is wonderfully styled. Jodie has kept things really simple and paired back and it just looks so effective. It also shows what a versatile venue Cripps Stone Barn is - we've featured countless weddings from there, and every single one looks so different!

Jodie also went simple with her beautiful Alan Hannah gown, which fits her perfectly and actually makes her look cool, as well as beautiful and elegant!

It's so lovely to see Bridesmaids in red too. These girlies look so pretty and striking, it makes me wonder why more Brides don't opt for the bold colour?

Jodie The Bride: Even after being involved in every step of the planning process, our wedding still managed to take my breath away. From the offset it was important to us that the day was a reflection of who we are and what we love; our biggest love of all being our family and friends...and that is our biggest and most amazing memory of the day; a room filled with the love, laughter and happiness of everyone we love.

The Dress

You would not believe how tricky it is to find a beautifully tailored, simple, elegant, white, classic dress. Almost every dress I came across was a shade of cream and either beaded, lacy, heavily designed or all of the above. After several visits to a range of bridal shops across the country, all the dresses I saw started to blend into one.

I'd been saying for a while that I wanted to wear something quite classic and timeless with a stylish twist to it but I was beginning to think this kind of dress didn't exist. And then along came The Harrogate Wedding Lounge! The version of the dress I tried in the store was high neck and ivory so it took a little imagination to picture the dress that I would wearing!

Hayley and Leanne were absolutely incredible with me and supported me through all my 'will it be ok? Will I look boring? Should I have stuck with ivory?' traumas! Those ladies deserve a medal.

In the end, I could not have been happier. To me, it is the most exquisite, classic and perfectly tailored dress (Dan and I are both big fans of tailoring!). I had a beautiful double layer cathedral length veil made that enhanced the dress beautifully. There's something about a veil that just feels amazing!

The Accessories

I wanted to keep the look minimal and classic so I opted for simple, white leather pointed shoes from Topshop and my vintage dealer Auntie Jo gave me the most beautiful pair of art deco crystal droplet earrings to complete the look.

The Groom

The words 'Dan' and 'suit' quite regularly sit within the same sentence. This man LOVES a suit and will find any excuse to wear one - so I knew that his suit endeavour would be a very exciting one for him.

A good friend of ours who was working at Paul Smith at the time recommended Michelsberg Tailoring in Leeds. As soon as he mentioned that the suits were designed and crafted over a number of weeks and a number of whiskeys, Dan was in like a shot!

Again, Dan loves a classic look with a stylish twist and so he opted for a three piece suit and chose a navy and burgundy check cloth (to pay homage to his Scottish heritage) and a navy blue velvet bow tie. I knew he'd look really cool but he surpassed every expectation I had.

The Venue

We knew we wanted a barn wedding with beautiful outdoor space and we hoped that we could have it just far enough from our Yorkshire home to make a weekend break of it with our friends and family. When we visited Stone Barn, we knew instantly that we would be getting married there. They had one July weekend date left and we literally booked it within 30 seconds of being in the venue.

It has so much natural character and warmth and the surrounding landscape is just breathtaking. We thank our lucky stars we were blessed with beautiful weather so we could appreciate the stunning countryside. Because the charm of the venue is it's raw, natural, simplicity, we really didn't want to over complicate it by overly designing the decor.

The Decor

We kept it simple and rustic by having ivy features draping from beams and rusted tin buckets filled with gypsophila. I made hessian table runners and collected glass jars from my family and friends, which I filled with tea lights and placed in clusters on the tables.

Dan and I love to travel and have a particular love affair with foreign cities so we named each table after one of our beloved cities; ours being Paris of course! Each city was represented by a vintage travel poster, carefully sourced by my amazing best friend and right arm; Victoria. She also created the incredible map poster seating plan.

Continuing the 'travel' theme and in keeping with our love of European countries, my bridesmaid Amy and I made limoncello favours that were used to display each guest's name and a thank you note. My sister Kelly and her husband bought us a polaroid camera as a wedding present, which we used alongside our guestbook for guests to take some funny snaps of themselves - this was fantastic to look back on and read the accompanying drunken messages!

My amazing mum bought Dan and I 2 beautiful champagne saucers to have on our wedding day, which, if the evening shots are anything to go by, didn't leave either of our hands for the entire day! People just kept filling them with champagne!

The Food

One of the most appealing features of Stone Barn was the food! We are both big foodies and so having a good quality, tasty menu was very important to us. We had heard how wonderful the food that Cripps Kitchen provided was and were very excited by the prospect of having a rustic, feast style wedding breakfast.

We opted for one of our favourite starters; charcuterie and chose sirloin steak as our main, both served on big wooden boards and served by the nominated chef on each table! For dessert we chose our favourite French sweet; creme brulee, which was tres delicious!

Baz and Fred provided the gorgeous, rustic stone-baked pizzas in the evening, which were warmly received by our guests! The beautiful three tier victoria sponge cake was made by Sara's Flowers and Teas and was assembled by her sister (and my bridesmaid) Amy. It looked so yummy and natural and, from what I've heard (there was none left for me!), tasted amazing.

Being that we are Yorkshire folk, Dan's dad transported 2 big barrels of the Yorkshire ale, Farmers Blonde, down to the venue for the fellas to have at the wedding. This went down a treat and added a touch of Yorkshire to the occasion.

The Flowers

Flowers were created by Beth Cox, who crafts beautifully natural arrangements. I wanted a plain, uncontrived rose bouquet that featured a range of vintage pinks. I often think that the more simple you have things, the more striking and beautiful they are.

My bridesmaids had floral headpieces ranging from full floral crowns to side combs. These featured a range of vintage pinks, reds, burgundys (to tie in with Dan's suit) and creams and looked so pretty against the simplicity of the dresses.

The Bridesmaids

The bridesmaid dresses were again, very simple, but beautiful, elegant and striking. They were from H&M and I bought them months in advance based on the fact that I knew they would suit each of the girls' body shapes and I knew they would suit the venue and style of the day perfectly. We never really set off with a specific design, colour scheme or theme for the girls or the day, it just evolved from selecting things that we loved.

My beautiful niece and flower girl wore a pretty white dress that I had made from Etsy, white ballet shoes, a gypsophila floral crown and carried a heart chalk board that read 'last chance to run Uncle Dan', which she forced her Uncle Dan to read at the end of the aisle! That's my girl!

The Groomsmen

The best men wore mismatching suits from Next. We didn't want them to look too formal and stuffy but we did want them to look smart and cool. They wore pink shirts to tie in with the pink of my bouquet and the floral headpieces and burgundy knitted ties from Ties Planet to tie in with the burgundy of Dan's suit. I knew I didn't want things to be too 'matchy', it's just not my style, but I did want to tie things in together in a natural way.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was so beautiful and relaxed. It was the most emotional time of my (and everyone else's if the photos are anything go by!) life. We had two readings; Unending Love by Rabindranath Tagore and I Carry Your Heart by EE Cummings. I walked down the aisle to Billie Holiday's I'll Be Seeing You and we exited the ceremony to The Beatles' All You Need is Love, both played live by the amazing Riviera Band.

The band were absolutely phenomenal and the perfect choice for our day; they played three sets throughout the day and created the exact tone that we wanted. Dan and I both started this process saying that two of the most important things for us were food and music (story of our lives) and I'm so pleased to say that both things couldn't have been any better.

The Best Bits

The most incredible part of our day? Hands down it was the presence of The Three Waiters. I booked these as a surprise for everyone (including Dan) and they really did bring a touch of magic to our day. I ummed and ahhhed about having them because of the cost factor but Dan and I both agree that it was some of the best money we spent. There wasn't a dry eye in the room and the entire act was a surprise that grew throughout the meal and came to a climatic end with the most incredible rendition of Nessun Dorma around the top table. It literally took my breath away.

Another part of the day that we loved was the confetti throw (or rather 'confetti attack'). My bridesmaid, Zoe, had created beautiful confetti cones out of old sheet music...let's just say there was nothing musical about the confetti throw! The guests revelled in attacking us with it; confetti was literally in our mouths and ears but it was absolutely hilarious and a very memorable part of the day. The evil guests seemed to enjoy themselves!

The Photographer

Our photographer...the amazing Jon Dennis ...what a guy. He has the ability to capture the individual moments of your day and produce a storybook that takes you right back to those moments. His photographs are our memory of our wedding and having Jon as our photographer was the best decision we made. Not only is he a consummate professional, he becomes your friend and you feel wholly supported by him every step of the way.

The Videographer

Matthew Modget Films captured our day. If you haven't looked into his footage yet, make sure you do! I found him at Harrogate Vintage Wedding Fair and could not believe my luck when I saw his style. The footage is captured on super 8 film so it creates a classic, vintage, old movie look...and you get to keep the actual film reel after! He's like nothing else out there. Love love love...and wonderful to work with too.

Advice

Advice to all you brides...remember what you're doing it for; to marry the love of your life. Everything else is secondary and that's what actually matters on the day.

I'm in the process of setting up a rustic wedding hire site where you can hire all of the things that I created for our wedding such as tin buckets for flowers, mini easels for tables, large easels for seating plans, glass jars for candles, Mr and Mrs wooden chair signs, tree trunk cake stand etc etc etc. I wish something like this had been available for me!
