Killer Party Playlists; Wedding Music Inspiration & Ideas

We've said it before, and we'll say it again.

Never ever (ever!) underestimate the power of wedding music.

Like, ever!

So many couples forget to plan their playlist until the last minute, or they leave it in the hands of their DJ. But we're here to tell you guys to get involved in choosing the tunes!

You can blow your budget on florals, grace the aisle in the most incredible dress, and smash it with your groom's speech.

But our guests shedding a tear at your vows, bursting with happiness as you dance your first dance, and feeling achey the next day from a night well spent busting moves on the dancefloor - all of that is so much more special, personal, and memorable than all the candelabra centrepieces and hand-painted seating charts combined.

And all of that is so much more impactful depending on your choice of music.

Because we're so passionate about wedding music - and encouraging couples to put some work into creating their perfect wedding playlist - we're often working away on putting together posts and playlists for you guys.

Follow us on Spotify so you never miss a new playlist, and if you need help making one of your own, we'd love to hear your requests in the comments below.

At the minute we have first dance songs, cocktail hour music, and a wedding floor filler playlist all in the pipeline (and we'd LOVE your suggestions!)

The World's Most Popular Wedding Songs

The funny thing we've noticed from putting together our wedding playlists is how vastly the most popular first dance songs, recessional tunes, or party numbers can differ from place to place.

In England Ed Sheeran or Kodaline are this year's first dance go-tos, whereas Stateside, John Legend and The Lumineers are so popular for weddings. Acts like Hozier and Bon Ivor are quite cool at the moment for couples looking for music that's a little more indie and alternative for their wedding.

Then of course, the likes of Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Coldplay, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald or Snow Patrol are all wedding music staples.

Earlier this month, Spotify released two playlists of the most played wedding songs in the world.

Some we were expecting (John Legend's All of Me), while others totally floored us (Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines - seriously, has no one listened to the words!).

Analysing over 400,000 wedding themed playlists (we're hoping some of ours were among them!) they found Jason Mraz and Ed Sheeran were the most popular artists, with several of their songs making the lists, but that golden oldies like Elvis and Etta James were still as beloved as ever.

Spotify recruited celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss to talk us through how her clients select their wedding party playlists. '

The music is always a very big priority for all my clients when we're planning their wedding. They choose the soundtrack based on personal moments they've shared together, keeping in mind what their guests will like, as well as make sure there is a good mix of golden oldies and modern hits to keep people on the dance floor all night long.'

That's what it's all about right, bringing the romance big time, then hitting it hard with the killer party tunes!

So, to be extra helpful (they're nice like that) Spotify put together their pick of the most popular wedding songs on the planet, into two playlists so you can try them out for your own big day.
