Vintage Village Hall Steam Railway & Light Filled Home Made...

Isn't there just something so very romantic about a steam railway platform? I just love that today's couple took the steam train from their ceremony to the reception, it must have been a really special journey.

WWW readers Hayley and Silas tied the knot on the 27th July 2015 in the beautiful Cotswolds and they held their old fashioned feel party in a village hall. Their budget was tight and so the whole day was lovingly crafted by themselves and their loved ones. No mean feat when you are ballet dancers working abroad during the planning.

They envisioned a light filled day with a relaxed atmosphere, complete with afternoon tea and fish and chips. Now let's talk about those dresses. Hayley looked sensational in an original 1940s wedding gown with a veil she made herself ,while her favourite girls opted for mismatched vintage frocks. Gorgeous.

Scuffins Photography, thank you so very much for sharing your simply beautiful imagery with us.

THE PROPOSAL | Silas had bought me a gorgeous vintage ring as my Christmas present which he gave to me on New Year's Eve at home just before we were about to go out to celebrate with friends.

THE VISION | Homemade, lots of light, relaxed.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We are both ballet dancers and were working abroad for a lot of the time leading up to the wedding so we were lucky that friends and family helped us out a lot. Silas's family are from Cheltenham so his Dad helped with a lot of the area specific planning, visiting venues for us and storing lots of things for the day at his house! For the hall a lot of the decoration was done by my sister and Maid of Honour Sophie. We communicated via pinterest pictures so that she could get a good idea of what look we were after and then she made decorations and sourced a lot of the décor for us from friends.

BUDGET | Tight!

THE VENUE | St. Paul's Church Shurdington. We chose to get married here because this is where Silas's parents got married. Our reception was at Toddington Village Hall. We chose this village hall because it was nice and bright and had beautiful views all around. They also had a lovely garden area we were able to use as we were lucky with the weather on the day.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My wedding dress a 1940's vintage dress from House of Vintage. My shoes were from Dune. The veil was home made by me. I was so happy with it I ended up wearing it the whole day! My wedding ring was bespoke by RJ Spicer a very friendly jewellers who were recommended to us by a friend.

FINDING THE DRESS | My bridesmaid Louise was a big fan of the shop House Of Vintage and when she found out I was getting married she was desperate to take me to see their relatively new bridal showroom. It was a really lovely experience going to the showroom, nice and relaxed and I was able to try on lots of dresses. I felt much more unique and myself in the vintage dresses than in new ones I had tried on. I found I was leaning more towards 1940's styles and on my second visit Marcia, the owner pulled out one that hadn't been finished yet but that she thought I might like. I tried it on and it fitted perfectly. My sister Sophie and Louise both thought it was the one. I had to sleep on it (because I am very indecisive) but when I went back to see it the second time and it was finished I really felt like it was 'my' dress.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Suit and Shoes: ASOS Shirt: Reiss.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Our readings were A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton and the Song of Solomon. I walked down the aisle to Blackbird by the Beatles played on guitar by my brother. Silas's sister played the Bach/Gounod Ave Maria on the violin with the organist during the signing of the register and my Dad played and sang Wonderful World by Sam Cooke. We walked out to the traditional Mendelssohn Wedding March on the organ.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My bridesmaids were my sisters Sophie and Jasmine and my two friends Louise and Anna. Three of the dresses they wore were also from House Of Vintage except for the long pink dress which we bought from Velvet Atelier at Alfie's antique market in Marylebone. I made the headdresses they wore.

THE FLOWERS | The flower arrangements for the Church were done by flower ladies at St. Paul's Church Shurdington and they did a beautiful job with them. We ordered extra flowers through them which I made the bouquets with and also used for the flower arrangements in the hall.

THE CAKE | Traditional fruit cake made by my bridesmaid Anna. It was delicious!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Silas takes an interest in photography so we decided the photography was going to be his 'dress'. He did some research and picked Chris and Helen of Scuffins Photography but was so disappointed when they were booked up already for our original date. We ended up having to change our date and luckily they were available for the new one! Our schedule was really busy but luckily we managed to find time to meet them for a drink just before the wedding day and it was lovely to meet them and chat to them about our plans for the day. They were really great on the day, so easy to work with and friendly and the photographs they took are wonderful.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | A lot of our decisions were informed by the need to keep to a small budget. Silas designed all of our stationery. The décor was all either sourced from friends or hand made. The favours were home made jam and lemon curd made by Sophie with her good friend Sue. We also used their home made jam for the afternoon tea. My Mum made all the scones! In the evening we had a fish and chip van which went down really well with the guests. We had a band which was made up of friends and family and they sounded great despite only having time to have a quick last minute rehearsal the day before! We went on a steam train from the Church to the reception which was great fun and gave us the opportunity to get some really great photographs! It also went really well with mine and the bridesmaids outfits!

THE HONEYMOON | We are hoping to save up and have a great honeymoon next summer!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | We couldn't have had such a great day without all the help from family and friends so if people will let you use their talents let them! Also you only get to do it once so if there's something you really want and you can afford it go for it!
