While last season saw Claire Pettibone turn to the rustic American Old West for inspiration, her Fall 2016 collection, entitled The Gilded Age, delved deep into the world of opulence. To capture her heirloom vision, Pettibone paired radiant embroidery with delicate fabrics. Intricate threadwork in metallic hues of rose gold and silver dazzled against lavish layers of silk and lace overlays. Joining the line's metallic palette, Pettibone also infused hints of colour with pale pinks and blues woven into several of the collection's designs, which included an Edwardian-inspired sheath gown with sheer long sleeves and aquamarine lace embroidery. Delicate ribbon accents played into the collection's soft, ethereal aura and added a whimsical touch to its sumptuous heirloom pieces. Exuding an air of romance and decadence, décolletages were adorned with exquisite scalloped trimmings, while backs boasted meticulously embroidered detailing, flowing watteau trains and elegant keyhole cuts. Pettibone's recent work designing her fine jewellery line was also reflected in the collection's addition of beaded cap sleeves, pearl accents and bejeweled embellishments. Completing the collection's aristocratic and romantic motif, models donned voluminous tousled up-dos, rosy cheeks and vibrant luscious red lips.
