As the evenings draw in during the Autumn and Winter; weddings get darker. With weddings usually starting in the afternoon, in the depths of winter that leaves you with only a couple of hours of light.

Of course that helps to create a cosy romantic atmosphere, but it also means you need to think about how to light your wedding to perfection. From dim atmospheric lighting to bright and colourful disco lights there is something to suit every wedding day (or evening).

Be sure to check with venues and your photographer about the options you can work with, which are both safe and easily photographed.

Fireworks & Sparklers

Get the wedding evening off to a bang (excuse the pun) with pretty fireworks or sparklers. Give your guests some pretty light entertainment to set the tone. Sparklers are a cute and inexpensive way to get some fun shots, especially at the end of your wedding.

Fairy lights

Fairy lights are a go to option. You can pick them up cheaply, or even second hand. Drape them, pop them behind some netting, hang them and look into having them outdoors too. If you are planning a December wedding your venue may even have some hanging up over the festive season, so be sure to ask.

Candles

Candles are the ultimate romance symbol. You need to make sure it is safe to use them primarily but you can get candle alternatives which are electronic. Eco friendly and ambient, you could also experiment with scented candles to enchant the senses. Or why not try making your own?

Festoon Lights

Festoon lights are one of the newest wedding trends here in the UK. Globes of light with an industrial feel, they add a cool edge to wedding decor. If you struggle to find them to buy, consider hiring and letting the pros light up your wedding.

Camp fires

Having a fire is the way to top off a rustic event. Some tipi companies include a fire pit for a cosy wedding reception, or ask your venue to have one outdoors. Perfect to keep those fingers warm or even toast marshmallows. Sing songs are essential.
