Wedding Makeup Tips and Tricks from Beauty Experts

I'm pretty sure it is safe to say that on your wedding day there will be more pictures taken of you than the cumulative total during the rest of your life (no pressure). So, of course, you want to look your absolute best in every frame! We have gathered some fantastic tips and tricks from leading beauty experts to help your inner glow shine through on the happiest day of your life!

1. Sleep and hydration. Unanimously, all of our experts agreed that getting good sleep and drinking plenty of water in the weeks before your big day is crucial to making the camera love you. Plus, both will also make you feel at your optimum, and that always shows.

2. Hire a professional. While it may come as no surprise that makeup artists recommend using a makeup artist, we have to agree wholeheartedly. You hire a makeup artist for the same reason you don't trust Uncle Joey to cater your wedding even though he is the self-appointed "king" of barbeque. Makeup artists know more about makeup than anyone-let them help you be the most gorgeous you.

3. Skin care is key. The week prior to your wedding is not the time to start taking care of blemishes or dry, flaky skin. "Go to a dermatologist at least three months before your wedding to figure out the appropriate treatment and get it under control," suggests Karuna Chani of KC Makeup. Trying any new treatment or product too close to your wedding could cause you to have breakouts or skin reactions on the day of.

4. Spray tans are great, but... This is another thing that you don't want to experiment with too close to your aisle debut. If you've never had a spray tan, try them out far in advance of your wedding. You might not like how you look and prefer your own skin tone. Once you decide you like the effect, Amanda Gabbard of Guerlain Spas advises, "Don't go too dark. I suggest you go 4-5 days prior to the wedding...and see a professional rather than using a spray booth."

5. Look like you. All of our experts touted the importance of your makeup enhancing you, rather than transforming you entirely. Rebecca Perkins, co-founder of Rouge New York cautions, "While it's always fun to change a look or play, on your wedding you want to look and feel like the best version of yourself and the person your betrothed fell in love with." In your pre-wedding consultation, make sure you feel amazing in the makeup your artist is using and provide lots of feedback. Unsure? Elise Brill of Leesi B Cosmetics suggests "taking a picture of yourself because the way we see ourselves in a mirror and in a picture can be very different."

6. Lashes and brows, oh my! We all know that your primping your eyebrows into the perfect shape and having long, full lashes does wonders for opening up your eyes and framing your face. But neither of these should be last-minute preparations. Take the extra time to go in for eyelash extensions because as Perkins warns, "Tears can weaken the glue at the inner corners of adhesive lashes causing them to lift and look crazy. A gentle coat of waterproof and a generous application of individual lashes will withstand a torrent of joyful tears on an emotional day." Gabbard recommends having your eyebrows waxed or threaded several days prior to your wedding to prevent redness.

7. A consistent wedding party is a pretty wedding party. Of course, not every bridesmaid is going to wear the exact same products as you do. Different skin tones, as well as hair and eye colors, will make the same product look very different. Instead, go for a cohesive look to avoid one bridesmaid rocking winged liner, while another uses muted earth tones. Chani suggests talking to your bridesmaids about their makeup in order for the bridal party to have a cohesive look.

8. Don't forget little touch-ups. On the day of, your makeup artist ought to leave you with "lip color and an invisible blotting powder," says Brill. Make sure that you have these products close by for a quick duck in the restroom to freshen up.
