Here at MDC, we are lucky enough to have a panel of experts to sound off on hot beauty topics. Today, we asked hair guru Zachary Morad to give us some vital tips on how to work the curling iron.

You constantly see those bouncy, perfect curls on TV and magazines, but when you get down to trying them on yourself, they just don't come out right! I understand your pain. Allow me to present you with a go-to guide on how to get the curly looks you love.

1. Rotate

When seeking a natural beachy look, don't smooth or brush out your hair too much before curling! The key is keeping these curls messy and imperfect-looking. Also, rotate the direction of each curl and use a bit of a light pomade (like Garnier De-Constructed Pixie Play) to add texture!

2. Face Forward

Use a 1¾ -inch wand for glam red-carpet. First, wrap each section towards your face working your way around the circumference of your head (your last curl should be away from your face). Allow the curls to to cool, then gently brush the hair with a paddle brush to release the waves. Try pinning one side up to kick it up a notch and add a little old-Hollywood flare!

3. Pin-Worthy

Calling Brigitte Bardot! Grab a large (2-inch) curling iron for a pumped-up, supermodel-inspired look that scream va-va-volume! After curling each piece, pin them into the shape of the curl and allow the hair to cool. Give your do a spritz with a flexible-hold hairspray and remove the pins. Brush through the hair with a paddle brush and you've got full, fabulous locks!

4. Straight and Not-So-Narrow

The secret to the perfect wob (wavy bob) is to use a flat iron instead of a curling iron! Rotate the flat iron while running it through your hair to create a slight wave!

5. Comb It

Use a smaller (1-inch) curling iron and wrap small sections of hair around it, making sure you're curling away from your face. Let the hair cool, then comb through it with a wide-tooth comb. Dab a bit of styling cream on your hands and gently run it through your locks to calm any flyways.

6. Start from the Top

One of my favorite curling iron looks was made famous by the First Family of reality TV: the Kardashians. First, and foremost, part your hair down the middle. Grab a 1¼- inch curling iron and, starting from the root, curl your hair away from your face. Let the style cool and brush it out with a paddle brush. Give it a light spray of flexible-hold hairspray and you've got the 'do!

7. Half-Baked

For a more edgy, rock 'n' roll feel, try curling only the top-half (or ¾) of each hair section. Leave the bottom half straight (you can even run a flat iron over the ends for a more spiky texture).

8. Pin-Up Status

Want to give off a little retro vibe? Set your hair with a medium-sized curling iron, pinning each curl in place, away from your face. Spray with a strong-hold hairspray such as Kerastase Laque Couture Strong Hold Hairspray to Set Long-Lasting Styles, and allow the curls to set. Remove pins and brush out curls, making sure to brush away from your face and allow the hair to fall into its natural curl pattern. One more spritz of hairspray and you're ready for your close-up!
