  1. The biggest mistake a woman can make is to wear white to another woman's wedding. The only one wearing white should be the bride or other members of the wedding party if so designated. Wear any of the off-white colors but leave pristine for the bride. Forget this rule and you will definitely get talked about for years to come.

  2. Jeans, tees, flip flops, cut offs, track suits and other really casual wear are definite no-no's. It doesn't matter that the invitation said 'Casual" that is definitely not what it meant.

  3. Women keep the cleavage to minimum. And for heaven's sake wear the appropriate undergarments. And don't wear something that is so short that you can't pick up a napkin when it falls without showing off all your assets. A good rule of thumb is "if you have to tug it down, it is not appropriate to wear". There is nothing more distracting than watching someone wrestle with a skirt or dress that is obviously too short. We have all seen it, the person gets tipsy or are out on the dance floor and showing more than their great dance moves.

  4. If the wedding ceremony is in a place of worship be respectful of that. Even if you are not religious or even atheist it doesn't hurt to respect the beliefs of others. If you are wearing a cocktail dress that is strapless or bares a bit too much skin a simple cover up for the duration of the ceremony is not too much to ask.

  5. If there is not a mention of a dress code on the wedding invitation be sure to find out long before the day of. There is nothing like showing up under or overdressed. Either way can be distracting and uncomfortable for you and the bride.

  6. Wear the right shoes and make sure they are comfortable enough to stand around in for hours. If it is an outdoor garden wedding wear shoes that will not leave holes in the lawn. You can still wear the stylish shoes to the reception but bring a pair of flats for walking on grass or sand.
