Meet Denise Fasanello of Denise Fasanello Flowers

Happy Tuesday Guys....it's "Meet the Designer" series and guess who we have stopping by the cafe today...my beautiful and talented friend Denise, of Denise Fasanello Flowers...I have to start off by saying that I simply ADORE Denise...she is one of the nicest ladies on the planet...her flower designs are always GORGEOUS...always "magazine worthy" and I love her style of design!! Denise comes to us from the NYC area and I'm so excited to have her stop by the cafe today and share a little of her world with us....and make sure you check out her beautiful website....you're gonna love it!!....Enjoy!!

TBC: Describe your client?
DF: Happy and excited people planning the biggest party of their lives.
DF: Like many small business owners my days vary greatly. I'm constantly juggling many hats. Right now, I am taking advantage of my slow season by tending to my home and personal life. I'm feeding my other creative outlets like creating ceramics, making drawings and cooking. I'm doing yoga and I'm sleeping. When the wedding season kicks in it's months of waking early, buying flowers, designing, cleaning, schlepping, doing paperwork, using my credit card, guzzling coffee and then more cleaning. The one constant in my day no matter what season is that I end it with cuddles with my daughter. My savior.

DF: The museums, galleries and specialty shops of NYC are always a source of great inspiration for me. I'm always looking at the various decorative art as well as painting, and textiles. I enjoy using Pinterest. And of course flowers always inspire.

TBC: Describe your design style.

DF: Lush, natural, clean and joyful.
Hmm... I guess I could say working with a prestigious event planner in a classic NYC hotel but really the highlight of my career is the fact that I can control my schedule. All this talk about women "leaning in"- It's been my experience that the way to "have it all" (career and family life) is to be in control of your schedule as best as you can.

DF: Know your craft. Try working with a variety of experienced designers where you can learn different styles and techniques. If you are interested in owning your floral design business, having administrative skills is key and knowing how to manage a team is essential.

DF: I haven't had my big break yet! I'm slowly building a reputable profitable business that I am proud of -one that is respected by my clients, employees and colleagues.

TBC: When I'm designing, I love to light my candles and play "old school" music. Do you have a ritual that you like to do when designing?DF: I always listen to classical music on the morning of the event - very early, just me, drinking coffee and making the bouquets. It's a nice time.

DF: I love making bouquets. So I guess that would be a highlight of wedding work. I also really enjoy when we are safely loaded into the venue, everything looks good and I can just bop around nudging things a bit, tweaking every petal and making it all perfect. There is nothing like being able to stand back and see your work as a whole.

DF: I have the pleasure to work with some of most skilled designers working in New York. I try and book my main assistant early because all the big city designers will scoop her up if I don't'! I'm super big on quality control and don't want to work on too many events over one weekend. I like a lean mean skilled team.

There is usually a core of 3 designers I hire. I'm an organizational freak so I like to have all my hard goods laid out and prepped a few days before the flowers come in. Normally we create everything the day before, do personal flowers the morning of the wedding and then its show time!

TBC: Describe your personal style...what are your favorite stores to shop at? Personal as in your fashion style or your home. TBC: Finish this statement: A bride's bouquet should reflect...

DF: The overall style of the event.

DF: I'm always looking to streamline my style. I like clean and simple basics with interesting accessories. But honestly I'm usually running around with a messy top bun in a stained puffer jacket.
