Amazing Natural Rustic & Hand Crafted Autumn Fairy Lights Wedding...

Amazing Natural Rustic & Hand Crafted Autumn Fairy Lights Wedding...

via

I so love the Autumn. Breezy sunny days, hazy light and golden leaves. And so do Dewi and Vicky, who chose to hold their wedding on the 20th September 2014 to embrace the Autumnal colours.

Pimhill Barn was the most magical of settings, which was decorated in twinkling fairies lights. Foraged forest foliage, vintage cameras and hessian bunting was used alongside a rustic cake baked by Vicky. The Calla Lily bouquets really popped against the navy bridesmaid dresses and there were some amazing music choices (and yes I have been on Spotify to listen while preparing this feature hehe).

How stylish are this pair? Vicky wore a figure hugging lace gown while Dewi went for a mismatched vintage tweed look. Gorgeous.

Thanks so much to Epic Love Photography for starting our week with a bang by sending over such amazing images.

THE PROPOSAL | April 6th 2013 - On top of a mountain in the Lake District on the first really sunny day of the year.

THE VISION | We wanted our wedding in the autumn so that we could use an autumn colour scene. We wanted a natural look, making fairy lights our main feature.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Finding our venue was easy, actually making the decision to book it took ages! Once the venue was booked, everything else was easier as we knew what we were working with. Pinterest gave us loads of inspiration and really helped us to design our dream wedding.

THE VENUE | Pimhill Barn at Lea Hall, Shropshire. We fell in love with this barn as soon as we saw it. We knew from day one that we didn't want a hotel or marquee wedding so we were looking for something a bit different right from the start. It was a little further away from home than we had initially wanted but it was stunning and well worth the short journey. We were really keen to have full creative control of our wedding and Pimhill allowed us to hire the venue only, and organise the rest ourselves.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was Mark Lesley (Style MLB 7028) in Ivory and Champagne from Cariad Bride. Shoes were Melanie by Rainbow with Rainbow shoe clips. My veil was handmade with vintage lace and my jewellery was by Jona Jewellery London.

FINDING THE DRESS | Was easier than anticipated! I wanted a simple lace dress, with no bling and no fluffy under skirt. I love that from a distance, the dress looks really plain but when you are up close to it, you can see so much intricate detail. My favourite detail was the hundreds of lace covered buttons that went from the very top of the dress, all the way down to the end of the train.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | The groom and groomsmen wore a mixture of high street and vintage tweed pieces with brown brogues. The grooms tweed jacket was from Moss and his brogues from Jones Bootmakers. As with the bridesmaids, we wanted the guys to compliment each other but not to match entirely so we chose pieces that varied in colour and texture. Dewi didn't want buttonholes so instead they had pocket squares and small silver lapel pins from Etsy. We are so happy with how their suits turned out and because we bought them instead of hiring, it means they have all been worn again.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | My Uncle Brian read 'Love is a temporary madness' before our vows and Dewi's Auntie Kate read 'Chamomile Tea' after. I walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Bon Iver's 'Skinny Love' and we used other acoustic Bon Iver tracks throughout the ceremony. Our first dance was to 'Case of you' by James Blake.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had four amazing bridesmaids, Suzi, Sian, Charlie and Jess. Initially I had wanted them to all wear entirely different dresses in complimentary colours. This is not as easy as Pintrest suggests it is!! Many dresses were bought and returned over the year and in the end I changed the dress colour scheme completely, to better suit the flowers. I am so pleased with the dresses they wore on the day which were from BHS. There was a selection of dresses in the shop in the same colour so the girls got to choose their favourite to best suit their shape and size.

THE FLOWERS | Orange, Pink and Purple Cala Lillies. These added a fantastic autumn splash of colour to our wedding scheme.

I wanted all of the bridal party to have the same beautiful flowers so we just made mine a bit bigger than the bridesmaid's bouquets. We decided to try making them ourselves so a few months before the wedding, we ordered a small number of the lilies and we had a practice run. They were so easy to make that we decided to make all the bouquets ourselves and this worked out far cheaper than paying the shop to do it.

My mum very kindly made the bouquets the day before the wedding and tied them together with florist tape and left over hessian from the table runners. I asked my seamstress to save the lace off cuts from my dress fittings and we tied these around my bouquet.

THE CAKE | I made this myself. As a cake maker, I knew I could save a lot of money by doing this and in the end we spent a fraction of the price of shop ordered cake. To make life easier for myself, I made three fruit cakes months before the big day, wrapped them and decorated them the week before the wedding. I wanted a simple cake so I chose plain white icing with plenty of texture, wrapped each layer with some raffia and added a simple but beautiful cake topper from Willow Tree. Easy!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Rob from Epic Love Photography. Dewi is a wedding photographer himself so the photography for our wedding was one of the most important things for us. We found it really hard to source a photographer with such a fantastic eye for beautiful wedding shots as this style of photography is practised by so few. We asked Rob to come from Northern Island and despite the extra cost of doing this, he was worth every penny and he made our wedding day complete. He was an absolute star from beginning to end and we loved having him there on the day. We were absolutely thrilled to get our photos and I still haven't stopped talking about them.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We really love small details so our wedding was littered with them. We chose dried petals for our confetti in colours to match the flowers. This was expensive compared to normal confetti but it looked amazing in the photos so well worth it!

My brother and sister in law supplied our wine. They run Vino Vero in Leigh on Sea. It was lovely to be able to support a family business with the wedding and the wines were delicious!

We saved tonnes of money on our table décor. We asked people months before the wedding to start saving jars which we washed and filled with tea lights for the tables.

As a fun touch we printed a selection of photos of Dewi and myself as kids. We cut the photos into leaf shapes and scattered them on the tables. These were really effective and provided long lasting entertainment for our guests!

To keep with the natural theme, we collected foliage from a local forest and we used this to intertwine with the candles. So in total our table decorations cost about £20 - the price of the tea lights and the photo printing.

We used camera names for our table names. Dewi collects old cameras so we loaded them with film and placed them on each table with small instructions on how to use them. Our guests had lots of fun using the cameras to capture special moments and we had so many fun photos to look through after the big day.

We strung nearly 300 metres of warm white fairy lights throughout the barn and it was magical. Fairy lights are really cheap on eBay, just don't buy them near Christmas! My mum painstakingly made hundreds of metres of hessian bunting which really finished off the look.

THE HONEYMOON | We decided against a sunny beach honeymoon in favour of an adventure holiday. We went to Canada and spent two weeks travelling around Vancouver, Whistler and Vancouver Island using AirBnB for our accommodation. Canada is even more beautiful than the pictures suggest and the people there are truly the nicest people we have ever met.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The feeling of relief the day before the wedding when we decorated the barn. When we finished, we stood back and relaxed, knowing we had achieved what we wanted to, and there was nothing more to do than to take it easy and thoroughly enjoy the rest.

The random situations our photographer introduced in order to get some of the amazing shots. A lot of the laughter in our photo shoot came from suggestions like 'imagine there was a zombie apocalypse ..............'.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Pick your photographer carefully. These photos will immortalise your wedding memories for you and your loved ones and will capture all the hard work you put into your wedding.
